 The Proclaimers Live in Cairns

If you were looking for an exiled Scottish person in Cairns, tonight is the night you would have found them at Cairns Performing Arts Centre asScottish national treasures the Reid brothers took to the stage.

The Proclaimers, Craig and Charlie Reid are almost accidental rock stars in many ways and always seemed surprised they had such a hit in Australiawith their second album Sunshine on Leith releases some 30 odd years ago now.

The Proclaimers however are more than just one album and they started off the night with a new song Dentures Out  followed by Over and Done With and then the mid career classic,  There's a Touch which got the crowd going.

This band is so tight amd proffesional it runs like a well oiled machine, but surprisingly there isnt much between songs banter which means that the set list of 21 songs gets played in full.

The boys are also proffesional in the sequencing of songs, playing belters and ballads in turn to the joy of the crowd.

It is amazing to see such a band in Cairns, for The Proclaimers it was there first time and whilst the venue wasn't full, which is kind of disapointing this did not diminish the enthusiasm brought to the stage by the band, in fact they truly looked like they were enjoying being there.

It is also testament to those who backed the expensive refitting of the Cairns Performing Arts Centre which has brought so many bands to the city

With the Reid brothers turning 61 during this massive Australian tour it may be a while if we see them back in Cairns if ever, but the night was one for the books and those who were there had a great time. Even standing up and dancing the way concerts should be.
